Ministers’ Day on ZalaZONE

ZalaZONE Research & Innovation hosted 3 ministers on 5th November 2022.

On the invitation of Prof. Dr. László Palkovics, Minister of Technology and Industry, Szalay-Bobrovniczky Kristóf, Minister of Defence and Csák János, Minister of Culture and Innovation  visited AVL-ZalaZONE Proving Ground on 5th November.

The high-ranking delegation visited Europe’s unique automotive proving ground with the purpose to get interactive insight into the activities of ZalaZONE Research and Innovation as well as the whole ZalaZONE Ecosystem.

Minister Palkovics called the test track one of the world’s fastest developing innovation ecosystems. Supporting the Hungarian automotive industry, the test track is now being used by universities, too, while two multinational companies are building their own research centres at the site. As an example, he noted, that German defence contractor Rheinmetall is building its new factory here. Defence minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky said, the knowledge and technology at the ZalaZONE were central to the development of Hungary’s armed forces.

Minister Csák said the Zalaegerszeg site had become a hub where universities, private companies, state developers and research institutes can work together.

In the buildings of the ZalaZONE Research and Technology Center, the student and teaching groups of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the Széchenyi István University in Győr and the Bay Zoltán Research Institute work togehter on collaborative research and development activities. Delegation members also visited the Bay Zoltán Research Institute’s vehicle dynamics simulator, which enables them to simulate driving conditions and self-driving functions under safe conditions.

During the site visit the ministers took a close look at the demonstrations, by sitting inside an autonomous  drifting car and a TIPO EV.
