Drone workshop for school students

On March 5, ZalaZONE InnoTech engineers hosted a professional drone workshop for students of the XIA Student Laboratory from Miklós Zrínyi Secondary Grammar School in Zalaegerszeg. The students from Zrínyi, Mindszenty Secondary Grammar School, and Csány László Technical School are participating in a two-year project, realised in  collaboration between the higher education and business sectors, to promote careers in science, research, and technology.

An important milestone off the project was the drone demonstration on Wednesday at the Proving Ground, where the students gained insight into drone development research at ZalaZONE with the help of development engineers Szabó Bendegúz and Gergely Kató.

To better understand how drones work, colleagues demonstrated the operation of VTOL drones using a drone construction kit and discussed the importance of drone communication data collection in the fields of meteorology and agriculture.

Following the discussion, an outdoor drone demonstration was held, where the autopilot functionality was experienced in practice. The students were able to observe live how a drone executes a pre-programmed flight path and which sensors assist in autonomous navigation. During the presentation, they also discussed the importance of real-time data collection during flight, which is crucial for precision agriculture and mapping tasks.

Organizing professional workshops for high school students fits into ZalaZONE InnoTech’s socialization program, whose key pillars are to build relationships with secondary and higher education institutions, attract the attention of young people interested in STEM, build bonds and personal relationships and later welcome them back as colleagues.
