The development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Hungary is getting new boost, after ZalaZONE’s managing director, László Palkovics was appointed government commissioner to coordinate the area. Gábor Kiss asked László Palkovics about his plans, tasks, priorities and achievements on M1’s Morning program.
László Palkovics explained in the interview:
- The mission of the mandate is to develop Hungary’s attitude towards artificial intelligence (AI).
- This work already has a history. In 2020, as Minister of Technology, he prepared the country’s AI strategy, which was adopted by the government and remains valid until today.
- However, as the field is developing rapidly, the strategy must be expanded and the priorities that most affect the country defined. There are already many successful examples of such applications, e.g., in healthcare or research, such as the development of autonomous vehicles.
- Artificial intelligence means two things: seizing its opportunities and avoiding the associated dangers. State plays a crucial role in both.
- There are many opportunities for Hungary in the field of AI, for example in education, science, business, or research.
- The average citizen’s fear that artificial intelligence will take our jobs is unfounded. Hungary is experiencing a labour shortage in the high-tech industry. We use robots and AI to perform dangerous and difficult tasks, freeing up time for people to spend on other things.
- AI applications are important for addressing the problems our society faces.
- We are at the forefront of the world in this, we have tools and knowledge, we need to start applying them. In education, platforms must be created that help to explain complex educational tasks more simply, more clearly, and more effectively. This is true in schools, but also true for those already active in the labour market.
